Formed in June 2019, Northern Titans Men's Netball Club was set up to provide Men with competitive outlet to play netball in the North of England.  While Men's Netball had a growing base in London, the rest of the country still had no men's club despite the presence of several social mixed leagues. On the back of seeing Knights Men's Netball play in the warm up fixture for national teams pre 2019 Netball World Cup, founders Declan Kohl and Della Claydon took the leap to kickstart Titans and start putting together a side.

The first Titans Trials were held that August and team of 15 Men, from around the North of England, came together to form our inaugural squad. From September, the team began a block of training - for some to learn the netball basics with it being their first time on a netball court. Little did we know what those first 3 months would bring, much more than we ever could expect...

Want to play for Titans?

October saw the Titans take to the court for the first time in our first match vs Wakefield Phoenix, a local netball club that had helped us  get the word out of our trials back in the Summer. A winning start saw us progress to take on Northern League, NPL and Premier 1 opposition in Hi-Tech NC, Leeds Rhinos U19s and Leeds Athletic NC over the next few weeks. We learnt so much from this mix of opposition and while we had some tough results, the lessons learnt were important ones. Buoying wins against City of Manchester NC and Manchester Flava built back up the sides confidence, vital considering the next challenge we had coming...

In late November we journeyed to play UK Superleague reigning champions Manchester Thunder as part of their preseason preparations. This was a massive honour and a huge privilege for 15 guys who had started out 3 months previously, to now be playing against some of our netball idols. We saw a great example of the level we were working towards and had a great time out on court.

This concluded match play for 2019 for the Titans and, in December, left us much to work on and think about. We send a huge thank you to all the netball clubs who played us in this period for giving us amazing contests and helping us establish ourselves amongst the Northern netball scene.

2020 began and with the dawn of the new year, a new wave of Titans players were brought into the fold. We were eager to build on the momentum we had established in 2019 and wasted no time getting back into training. February saw the beginning of what began our '2020 Universities of the North Tour' with Northumbria 1s, Leeds Beckett 1s and Uni of Nottingham 1s all coming in quick succession and lots of travelling! Unfortunately, COVID-19 prevented our fixtures against Manchester Met 1s and Uni of Manchester 1s, from going ahead but we will definitely aim to see them next year!

We also began our NT1/NT2 project, forming a second team as part of Titans. This led to a brilliant double header against Sheffield Stormers on a March Monday night at EIS. We also didn't fail to take the chance of playing against our coach and her Shipley Swifts 1s. With both our teams unbeaten in 2020, we headed south for a little bit of history...

Saturday 14th March 2020 saw the UK's first ever all Men's Exhibition Match between NT1 and London Knights 2s. It may have been a long wait for it, but boy was it worth it. A nail biting game led to a one goal, extra time win for Titans. A brilliant weekend for the whole squad in London ensued and we can't wait to get back onto court  soon!
